STD 8, 9, 10 To Learn Artificial Intelligence. Wish You Were In School Now?

Most things that reached 90s kids only in their college years are easily available to kids today. Be it early taste of freedom, greater access to technology, or personal mobile phone, the juniors have it all pretty early in life. And now you may add artificial intelligence to that list. Yes, the technology that you are getting to know in your twenties will now be available for students of middle school, thanks to a new decision by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

AI would be one of the optional subjects on the vocational side.

“The decision to introduce artificial intelligence as a skill subject was taken at a recent meeting of the board’s governing body. It has been decided that the subject would be introduced in classes 8, 9 and 10 as a skill subject,” a member of the board’s governing body said.

Artificial intelligence (better known as AI) is an area of computer science that creates intelligent machines that work and react like humans. This can make a computer, a software or a robot think intelligently, in the similar manner to humans.

“Syllabus for the new subject would be drafted for all the three classes. If required, the board will also help in the capacity building of schools for the teaching-learning of the new subject from the next academic session,” the member told Hindustan Times.

This idea was first bounced by government's think tank Niti Ayog which then caught CBSE's attention.
