Beyond Uniforms: When A Proud Father Saluted His Daughter In Front Of The World

Fathers play a very important role in the life of their daughters. That makes it more important for the fathers to tread with caution because a child will rarely follow father's advice but will always follow the example that he sets.

A news that has recently went viral on social media is about a father and daughter both belonging to Telangana Police Department. Deputy Commissioner of Police AR Umamaheswara Sarma, has been serving in the police force for over three decades. He began his career as a sub-inspector in 1985 and was recently promoted. Sarma, who is retiring next year, is currently serving as DCP in Malkajgiri area under Rachakonda Police Commissionerate in Hyderabad.

As the saying goes, the fruit doesn’t fall too far from the tree, DCP’s daughter too has followed her father’s footsteps.  His daughter Sindhu Sarma is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of 2014 batch. Sindhu is a Superintendent of Police of Jagtiyal district of Telangana and funnily enough, she is a post senior to her father.

Sindhu Sarma was appointed as a special officer to oversee the security of women at Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) at Kongara Kalan. Sindhu's father Deputy Commissioner of Police AR Umamaheswara Sarma was also deployed at the same meet. It was then the father-daughter duo came face to face while doing their duty. When Sindhu reached the venue, the dutiful dad took no time to salute SP Sindhu. She also bowed in accordance with the protocol while the bystanders watched it in amusement.

“She is my senior officer. When I see her, I salute her. We do our respective duties and don’t discuss this, but at home we are just like any father and daughter,” told the proud father to IANS.

Sindhu who looked visibly happy, said, “So happy to have attended duties with dad at such a huge meeting, just a year before his retirement. His inspiration brought me to the uniform service.”
