Two Kids from Kerala Break Their Piggy Banks to Donate for the Kerala Relief Fund
Over the last few weeks,
#Kerala witnessed an unprecedented downpour flooding 10 out of 14 districts in the state. More than 35 lives were claimed due to the calamity and more than 1 lakh people are left homeless. The flood-hit state has made numerous calls for helping the citizens and when the entire country has come together to help the situation, an inspiring gesture from a brother-sister duo came as a light of hope.
An amiable thought towards humanity
Haroon and Diya, two Kochi based kids decided to break their piggy-banks in which they were saving for two years and help out the flood victims. Born to Sidhique Mallassery and Fathima Siddique, the delightful expression of concern and thoughtfulness went viral when their mother narrated the incident on Facebook. "After seeing us donating clothes and other things to the relief camps our children came asked about giving their entire money from their 'baby bank' to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund, I was so happy,” Fathima said in the Facebook post.
Diya, an STD 4 students, and Haroon, a UKG student both have been saving money in their piggy bank since 2016 for a study table. But when they saw the situation in the neighboring states, they decided to contribute in any way possible. “The total money amounts Rs 2210. I know it's not a huge amount but they have done their part and we have decided to donate the money to CMDRF," Fathima added.
A Facebook post that inspired millions
Haroon and Diya’s contribution to the
#Chief Minister’s Relief Fund was of Rupees 2210, an amount that might seem small but their kind-hearted action won millions of hearts on social media. It also took their mother by surprise as she told how The News Minute how protective they are of their savings. "The piggy itself was handmade by Haroon during one of his summer camps. I once went to take some change from their bank as I did not have the exact amount to buy something and I nearly ran for my life when they found out." The kids thought of all the kids who lost their bags and books and that’s what they donated the money for.
The Prime Minister has announced 500 crore rupees relief for the state on 18th August after the center donated 100 crore rupees initially. The heavy spells of rain from the southwest monsoon have caused devastation on a massive scale and the state is constantly asking for aid for the suffering.
