Story Of How A 20-Yr-Old Computer Science Grad Picked Up Soilless Farming

If you are passionate enough to do something in life, nothing can stop you from achieving your goals. Sometimes, all you need is to grab the right opportunity at right time.and grab it which will lead you on the path of success and this is what this 20-year-old man did.

Vipin Rao Yadav, a resident of Saidpur village of Haryana, started looking for jobs after graduating in computer science. However, he was not satisfied with the job offers he was getting, as it did not match his credentials. When he was searching for employment opportunities, the future in farming struck his mind.

Using advanced farming techniques, he took flower farming training from one his friends and started growing different types of flowers using hydroponic technique (soilless farming). He rented a place in Gurgaon, which is well-known for flower trade. He built sheds on the rooftop and started growing flowers there.

Vipin is producing flowers of different varieties and colors in his nursery. He also supplies pro-trays (seedling trays) in the nearby nurseries. One pro-tray contains 102 holes for the growth of the saplings.

In a conversation with KenFolios, Vipin said that powdered coconut shell, vermiculite, and perlite are mixed in the proportion of 3:1:1 and put into the pro-tray to prepare the bed. The saplings are then placed on these beds for further growth. These saplings are nurtured for one to one and a half months and watered once in every two to three days. After germination in the tray, the plants are ready to be planted in the fields. However, most of the plants are sold in the pro-tray itself.

Vipin is making the productions in the polyhouse built on the rooftop. He earns net profit of Rs 25,000 to 30,000 even after giving the rent. He will soon start a new project on an 800 square feet area using natural ventilation, cooling, and a heating pad. This facility will enable him to produce exotic and seasonal nursery products. He is expecting a profit of Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh per month from this new project.

Vipin is working hard to increase his business with new plans. He also teaches hydroponic technique by offering free training to the people who are interested in farming. Vipin is also designing landscapes for large companies free of charge. He only charges the amount required for procuring the materials. He has indeed set an example in front of the younger generation who do not even consider agriculture as a profession.
