“I Went From Doing Odd Jobs To Making Bollywood Biggies Groove On My Instructions”

Failures are simply opportunities to begin again, with better experience than before, more wisdom, and more intelligence. Many a time, opportunities are disguised as hard work and hence people fail to recognize them. Life is a bed full of chances and opportunities come knocking every now and then. It is us, who fail to see or grab them.

People become successful not just for who they are or the skills they possess, but also because of who they choose to be. Today, we introduce you to Imran Sayed, a man who rose above from absolutely zero to build an empire of his own. He has earned a well-deserved spot as a choreographer in Bollywood with dozens of big names attached to his.

Challenging childhood

Imran grew up in Dombivali, in the outskirts of Mumbai. He had a rough childhood and lacked the perks that most kids receive while growing up. His dad, who worked on a ship, lacked job stability and the family suffered financially.

“There came a point where my father was jobless. My brother and I had to help the family. The first job we took up was that of a paper delivery boy. After that, we began delivering milk at people’s doorstep while still in school,” Imran says in an interview with KenFolios.

His mother started teaching the holy Quran to kids. Their entire neighborhood would be elated when his father returned from the ship and brought back goodies for everyone. But this warmth evaporated when Imran and his family were reeling under difficult circumstances.

Every day, Imran would wake up at 4 am, go to deliver milk, get back home and leave again for paper delivery. Later on, he started working as a receptionist in a tours and travel company. He had three idols who he very fondly revered all his life, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Jackson, and Bruce Lee.

Love for dancing

Imran liked to indulge in martial arts and is also a footballer. In college, he started dancing. “My father was against the idea of me dancing. I would sneak out through the window to go for competitions. My mother was neutral and would not mind me going for these contests,” he tells.

Imran held onto dancing and kept pursuing it. He began going for auditions for various events and films. He went unnoticed and wasn’t chosen from an audition for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. This made him work even harder towards his goal of getting in the industry. After years of hard work, he had his first breakthrough when he cleared the audition of Main Hoon Na. From then, there was no stopping him.

Gradually, things began to fall into place and soon enough, Imran began assisting choreographers. From IIFA and Filmfare to Bollywood movies, he began climbing the ladder at a rapid pace. He shared stage with many celebrities like Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Salman Khan, etc. He choreographed ad films for many big names including Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan.

Life turning around

This turnaround keeps Imran motivated to keep soaring. He enjoys reading and baking and finds solace during these pastimes. He also founded the company Imran Sayed Entertainment, under which he has a production company and an app called Dance Right.

“I have seen change happen in life. People who used to insult, criticize and look down upon me now praise me for all I have done.”

Imran believes that anybody can dance and no one can dance wrong. He helps people learn the art of dancing through simple and convenient steps. He has also started an NGO called PRAYAS to help the underprivileged kids and help them receive the opportunities they deserve.

Imran has judged a few reality shows. Currently, he is working on a web series for a digital platform which will be related to baking and dancing.

As he signs off, Imran says, “Life is full of opportunities and if I can make it this far, anyone can. My life has changed drastically because I wanted it to. We need to realize that any opportunity can connect us to our ultimate dream, however far-fetched it may seem.” He believes that one should always help people selflessly in whatever way he could.

Imran is one in millions of people who conquer all odds to chase their passion and make it big in life. He is a source of inspiration for every individual who is struggling to survive in this battlefield. KenFolios wishes him all the best for his future endeavours.
