The Indian culture’s discriminatory preferences for males is known to the world. Men outnumber women creating an unnatural gender ratio. Over 10 million female foetuses have been aborted in the last two decades. Daughters are tagged as burden and incapable of sustaining themselves or their family.
At a time like this, today’s story is a subtle slap on the faces of so many people, who consider their girl child useless. Mumbai-based girl Pooja Bijarnia has set an example when she donated her liver to save her ailing father. Her story was shared by Dr Rachit Bhushan Shrivastva on Facebook, which went viral in no time. Dr Bhushan believes that Pooja is a real life hero who does not believe in words like luck, fear, and impossible.
He also posted a picture of father-daughter duo brandishing their post-surgery scars. Dr Bhushan posted, “Brave Daughter: There are some real life heros who don’t believe in words like luck, fear, and impossible. When people say daughters are useless, she is an answer to them. A girl whom I don’t know personally but then for me, she is a hero who underwent liver transplant and saved life of her father. Proud of you girl and there is so much to learn from people like her. God bless you Pooja Bijarnia [sic].”
When the country is dealing with so many social issues, newspapers are filled with stories of daughters being raped, burnt, attacked and killed; girl child is thrown in the dustbin, sold and trafficked; this is a call to understand how much important a girl is. How much love and respect a woman holds in her heart and soul. How deprived she is of love and little bit of acknowledgment from her parents.
Pooja has shut several mouths with her act of bravery, compassion, and service. She has shown the world to what extent a daughter can go for the sake of her parents. She is indeed a guardian angel in shining armor.
We salute her!
